Embracing Coast FIRE: A New Chapter of Purpose and Impact

For many as in the SimpliMD community we are passionate about healing and entrepreneurship. The milestone of FI, represents not only financial security but also the freedom to pursue passions and make a difference. As I stand at this juncture, having achieved financial independence, I find myself drawn to a unique concept within the FIRE movement called Coast FIRE.

Understanding Coast FIRE

Coast FIRE is an intriguing subset of the broader FIRE movement. It’s for those who have amassed enough savings and investments to allow their money to grow on its own, reaching their retirement goal without the need for additional contributions. Essentially, individuals in the Coast FIRE stage can “coast” to full financial independence. This approach provides the freedom to pursue meaningful work and projects without the pressure of earning a high income.

My Journey to Coast FIRE

Achieving financial independence is a dream for many, and I am grateful to have reached this milestone. The corportization of medicine has led many hospital systems abandoning their community commitment to safe mother-baby healthcare, even if it’s not a huge money maker. That is exactly what’s happened in my rural community in the past 18 months, and it makes me sick to my stomach. By working together with healthcare staffing organizations, I can at least on a small level, help reduce the healthcare disparities that rural moms and babies experience and ensure that the critical care access hospitals are able to be maintain their status as a maternity oasis. Rural maternity care has been my passion from the very beginning of my training, and I am not ready to step away from it yet!
